TOOTH REPLACEMENT OPTIONS

Your next steps following emergency tooth extraction…

DENTAL IMPLANT

Dental implants restore your entire tooth, from root to crown, by being inserted directly into the socket. To maintain the bone's strength and health and to firmly anchor your new tooth in place, they fuse with the jaw. Implants are durable and frequently maintain their perfect state for a lifetime.

DENTAL BRIDGE

Dental bridges are a rapid and affordable way to repair up to four lost teeth at once. Two dental crowns serve as the end caps for the prosthetic teeth. You can quickly fix your smile by placing crowns on the teeth that are on either side of the gap, which are nearby.

DENTURE

Dentures are very adaptable to the needs of your mouth and can instantly replace anything from a single tooth or an entire full set of teeth. They maintain their position by taking advantage of the contours of your mouth. For added security and stability, some feature added clasps that connect onto your remaining teeth.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our expert dentists make sure your extraction procedure is smooth, quick, and painless

There are two methods for removing teeth: simple extraction and surgical extraction. Depending on the state of the tooth, our dentist will choose one or the other. For teeth that are visible above the gum line, a straightforward extraction is required. In this operation, our dentist will first loosen your tooth with a dental elevator before removing it from the gums with forceps. Only 3 to 15 minutes are needed to finish this procedure for each tooth. However, we will need to perform surgery to extract your tooth if it is buried beneath the gums. Your gums will be lightly punctured by the dentist, allowing them access to the tooth. From there, we can carry out a straightforward extraction by first separating the tooth from the gums and then removing it. To make the tooth removal process quicker and simpler, we may in some circumstances chop the tooth into smaller pieces. This process requires more time and often takes 45 minutes. Is tooth extraction painful? No, at our Cypress  location, tooth extraction is painless and easy. Even when a tooth is being removed surgically or urgently, local anesthesia thoroughly numbs the tooth and the surrounding area to assure your comfort. We also provide a variety of safe dental sedative methods to help you unwind mentally and physically if you're extremely fearful or apprehensive about your procedure.

DO YOU NEED WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL?

Our dentists may recommend removing wisdom teeth for these reasons...

Tooth Direction

Your wisdom may have grown sideways or even be tilted from the gum.

IMPACTION

Many wisdom teeth can't fully erupt through the gums. Impacted and partially impacted wisdom teeth have a greater risk of developing cysts, tooth decay, infection, and gum disease if they are not removed.

CROWDING

Overcrowding can prevent a wisdom tooth from erupting properly, harming neighboring teeth and causing them to move out of place. These teeth won't just need to be fixed; you might even need orthodontics to undo the harm.

PAIN

Jaw pain and toothaches are never good signs, and they can suggest that your wisdom tooth is now giving you trouble. The need for an emergency tooth extraction may arise depending on the situation.

Orthodontic Problems

Growing wisdom teeth can be a nightmare for teenagers and adults who are wearing braces or transparent aligners like Invisalign. They run the risk of losing all of their diligently won progress toward alignment and being brought back to square one, if not worse.

Tooth Extraction FAQ

Teeth are only pulled if they pose a threat to the rest of your mouth. Reasons we may extract a tooth include severe cavities, periodontitis, significantly fractured or broken teeth, and impacted wisdom teeth. In some cases, problems like overcrowding and crossbite may require pulling a tooth to give needed orthodontic treatment room to work and safely move your teeth.

Our dentists have performed thousands of tooth extractions, and we’ve got the treatment down to a science. Simple extractions only take between 3 and 15 minutes for each tooth, and surgical extractions take 45 minutes on average.

Your tooth extraction cost can vary depending on the type of extraction, tooth’s location, and whether the tooth is a wisdom tooth. Additionally, the type of anesthesia can impact the cost as local anesthetic is included, but dental sedation will be a separate cost. Tooth extractions are also covered up to 80% by dental insurance, the exact amount depending on the provider.

Missing teeth aren’t just an aesthetic problem. The jawbone depends on the pressure and stimulation your teeth’s roots provide to upkeep themselves and stay strong. Without that pressure, the bone shrinks (resorbs) into itself, leading to teeth shifting out of place, jaw sagging, your bite changing, and potentially further tooth loss. However, dental implants act as a fully artificial tooth, root and all, stopping resorption in its tracks. Bridges and dentures instead keep nearby teeth where they are, minimizing the resorption’s effects.

Impacted wisdom teeth are highly prone to painful and dangerous dental problems like tooth damage, infections, and cysts. Even partially impacted wisdom teeth are at high risk for cavities and gum disease because they are hard to keep clean and plaque-free. We typically recommend tooth removal before these issues occur. Otherwise, impactions show themselves with red and bleeding gums, jaw pain and swelling, and difficulty opening the jaw.

You shouldn’t eat or drink anything for the first hour after your appointment. After that, be sure not to drink any water from a straw or rinse your mouth for at least 24 to 48 hours. During this initial period, the socket will be forming a blood clot, which is vital for your mouth to properly heal. These actions can disturb the clots and make your recovery more difficult.

The Best Dentist In Cypress, Texas
Sandra Archuleta

We have been looking for a family dentist for a long time, we have tried a bunch of places but nothing felt quite like home. Not too long ago we stumbled upon Nu Dentistry and met Dr. Ali. Not only was he professional, kind, and gentle, but he always finds a way to fit us in when we need an appointment. He’s also pretty funny! I appreciate that he takes the time to explain what he’s doing, before he does it. That really puts me at ease.
