COMPARING DENTAL BRIDGES AND IMPLANTS

At Nu Dentistry, we always want you to put your best smile forward on your terms

Dental bridges aren't the only option for tooth replacement. A dental implant is another popular option. Both are excellent options, but you deserve the one that is best for you and your unique needs.

Dental implants function the most like natural teeth because their roots are titanium screws or posts embedded in the jaw. To complete your new tooth, this post is connected to an abutment and a dental crown. It is not necessary to reshape neighboring teeth in order to support your false teeth. This modification helps to keep the jaw healthy and whole in the long run. However, the implant procedure is time-consuming and requires multiple surgical appointments. They can also take anywhere from 6 months to a year to complete. However, with proper care, implants can last for decades or even a lifetime. In comparison, a dental bridge requires only two visits and far fewer intensive treatments. It's also a much less expensive option, particularly when replacing multiple teeth. When replacing three or more teeth at once, our office also offers implant-supported bridges. We can get the best of both worlds with your false teeth by anchoring the crowns of your bridge on implants rather than neighboring teeth. Implant bridges provide greater bite stability and dental health while saving you time and money.

YOUR DENTAL CROWN OPTIONS

At Nu Dentistry, we have multiple types of dental crowns available so you always put your best smile forward

ALL-PORCELAIN

Porcelain crowns combine aesthetics and durability to create a natural-looking dental crown that can last 10 to 15 years on average. They can last for more than 20 or 25 years if properly cared for. All-porcelain crowns have the most natural appearance, closely matching your teeth and blending in with the rest of your smile.

PORCELAIN-FUSED-TO-METAL

PFM dental crowns have a porcelain exterior that conceals a more substantial metal base beneath. This allows them to maintain a natural appearance while withstanding the daily pressures your mouth faces, such as chewing and mealtimes, as well as dental accidents. PFM crowns, like all-porcelain crowns, can last 20 years or more with proper care and maintenance.

METAL

Metal crowns are typically made from a combination of alloy metals such as silver, chromium, nickel, palladium, and platinum. While they do not appear natural, they sacrifice appearance for strength and durability. Metal crowns are highly resistant to cracking and chipping and can withstand greater force and pressure. Metal crowns have a lifespan of up to 30 years.

GOLD

Even when compared to other metal crowns, these are the most durable dental crowns. Gold has the same strength as other metals and wears down at the same rate as natural enamel. With proper care, these crowns can easily last more than 40 years to a lifetime.

RESTORE MISSING TEETH WITH DENTAL BRIDGES

Complete your smile in style with a dental bridge

Following tooth extraction, dental crowns can help you restore your missing tooth with a dental bridge. Bridges are made up of two dental crowns connected by a false tooth (pontic). How does a tooth bridge work? The pontic can neatly and securely fill the empty socket by placing the bridge's crowns on two neighboring teeth on either side of the tooth gap. The abutment teeth will be trimmed and reshaped to fit the crowns, just as our dentists do for standard dental crown procedures.

Dental bridges are also adaptable to your specific requirements. Depending on the shape of your smile, a single bridge can easily replace up to four missing teeth in a row at the same time. Bridges at our office are designed to look and feel natural, restoring your old bite and smile in just two appointments. Aside from aesthetics, there are numerous advantages to replacing missing teeth with a dental bridge. They are able to:

  • Help retain your facial structure after losing teeth
  • Stabilize your bite and make eating easier
  • Restore and improve speech
  • Prevent your remaining teeth from moving out of alignment
  • Improve your self-confidence

Implants

Dental implants are one of the greatest solutions for permanently replacing lost teeth when properly placed and completed. Dental implants serve as a replacement for the natural root of your tooth. This stops the degradation of bones. In addition, having dental implants as replacement teeth will keep all of the nearby teeth healthy, allowing you to keep your natural teeth. Dental implants can last a lifetime if properly taken care of and maintained.

Dentures

Does having lost teeth make you feel less confident? Nu Dentistry's dentures are a fantastic option to restore your smile. One of the most common methods for restoring missing teeth is using dentures, which have been in use for many years. Additionally, we strive to make our personalized dentures look as natural as possible. Some dentures can now be firmly attached to your jaw using current technology, giving you better retention and an even more lifelike appearance.

Crown & Bridge FAQ

Your dental crown cost depends on the material used. For example, all-porcelain dental crowns are the most costly, while metal and PFM crowns are more affordable. Gold crowns typically land between these two ranges. Additional treatments, like root canals and dental implants, can also impact the cost of your treatment. Dental crowns are also typically covered by dental insurance, so be sure to check with your provider beforehand.

Back teeth experience more daily pressure as they take on the full force of your bite, so stronger materials are needed to ensure dental crowns on these teeth last. A dental crown’s durability depends on the material chosen and your own lifestyle habits. For example, porcelain-type crowns can last 10 to 15 years on average. Most metal crowns can last around 30 years, while gold crowns can last 40 years to a lifetime. However, poor dental hygiene and nightly teeth grinding can reduce a crown’s durability, sometimes requiring replacement in as little as 5 years.

A temporary crown is placed on your tooth at the end of your first appointment. They are made of less sturdy materials and are only meant to last a few weeks while your permanent dental crown is made. The permanent crown is the one made of porcelain, metal, or a combination of the two that is meant to stay in great condition for decades to a lifetime.

PFM crowns have a porcelain surface, but there is also a metal rim at the bottom that is typically submerged below the gum line. While it is usually invisible, receding gums and gum disease can reveal this dark margin at the crown’s base. This can often be reversed with good dental hygiene. However, in some cases, it may be a sign to see our dentist for an examination.

Dental bridges can vary in cost based on several factors, including the type of bridge, the materials used, the number of teeth replaced, and the missing teeth’s location. Additionally, implant-supported dental bridges will require more costs than traditional ones to place the implants and perform any other necessary treatments, such as bone grafting.

A dental bridge keeps your false tooth in place using the teeth on either end of the tooth gap as anchors. The bridge’s crowns are secured to those abutment teeth so the pontic in-between can easily fill the gap. A dental implant is instead inserted directly into the jaw via oral surgery. Depending on your specific needs, this can take several appointments and months to complete.

The Best Dentist In Cypress, Texas
Sandra Archuleta

We have been looking for a family dentist for a long time, we have tried a bunch of places but nothing felt quite like home. Not too long ago we stumbled upon Nu Dentistry and met Dr. Ali. Not only was he professional, kind, and gentle, but he always finds a way to fit us in when we need an appointment. He’s also pretty funny! I appreciate that he takes the time to explain what he’s doing, before he does it. That really puts me at ease.

Anxiety Has Kept Me Away
Johnathan Smits

I usually have such huge anxiety when I go to a dentist appointment, which means I always put off visits until the last minute to disastrous consequences. However, Dr. Loggins helped me with sedation, so the entire process was a breeze!
